Below are four episodes from A Different World television series from the late 1980s and early 1990s. A Different World was created to show what it was like for students to attend an HBCU. The first three clips are called “Tales from the Exam Zone”. Think about how each student deals with studying and the pressure that comes before taking a major exam. How can you relate to being in college now as opposed to what college was presumably like in the late 1980s and early 1990s? Do you think students today still encounter these types of “breakdowns” before major deadlines? In the final episode, “Hillman isn’t Through with You Yet”, prospective students stay on Hillman College campus for a weekend. Do you think A&T should allow prospective students to stay with upper classman on campus for a weekend to see what college life is like and help them make a decision as to where they may want to attend school? Also, in this episode a senior is faced with a difficult decision to make. With the decision this senior has to make, do you think she made the right decision or should she have made another logical decision? Based on the episodes you are watching, do you think this show gives an accurate depiction of what it is like to attend an HBCU? What can you take from this show to better understand what it means to have an education from an HBCU? Be sure to THINK CRITICALLY for this assignment and give your overall thoughts of these episodes. I hope you have fun completing this assignment. Guidelines:
