Requiring Freshman to Live On Campus
Audience: Incoming freshman
Purpose: To live on campus
Freshman should be required to live on campus their first year of college, because it can be extremely beneficial to them. After a student spends their first year on campus, they are considered to have a better understanding of college life, and what they need to do in order to be successful. The first year of college is very important. It reflects what a student may or may not accomplish in the following years. Freshmen who live on campus tend to become more involved, have better grades, and closer access to the university’s facilities. Even though students are able to make their own decisions, requiring freshmen to live on campus can give them great opportunities, along with unforgettable learning experiences. The number one reason high school graduates go to college is to graduate with a degree, and have a successful career. It is important for freshmen to hit the ground running when it comes to their studies. If they plan to achieve that successful career, they will need to apply themselves from start to finish. Attending class plays a key role, in how well a student does in school. Also, it will better their professor’s opinion on how much effort they give, or how much they slack. Freshman who live on campus are more likely to attend their classes since they are walking distance from them. Students on campus also have better study environments. In order to study well, a student must have a quiet area to do so, and the library is the perfect place. Off campus students have more distractions, and freedom. Getting distracted, and abusing their freedom, can affect where studying falls on their list of priorities. Becoming involved is a great opportunity for students who are living on their own for the first time. Moving away from home is a huge transition, and can be quite stressful.
