P4 Explain strategies used in health and social care environments to overcome barriers to effective communication and interpersonal interactions. Introduction
Health and social care settings can present a variety of barriers to effective communication and interpersonal interaction. However these barriers and environmental factors can be overcome with the use of specific strategies targeting specific barriers. In this assignment, I am going to explain a number of these strategies aimed at improving the quality of communication in health and social care settings. A.Communication and interpersonal interaction possible strategies

a.Staff training and assessment of needs
Communicating is a skill that can be acquired with practice. Healthcare providers routinely offer formal training for their staff; thus providing opportunities to develop skills needed to communicate effectively with clients or service users. These training sessions offer a platform to address ways of overcoming potential barriers to effective communication. As well as developing new skills, care workers should be able to adequately assess service users’ needs. Usually, people will make their preferred method of communication obvious. However in certain cases, a specialist assessment may be required to ascertain clients preferred method of communication. Training techniques will help staff to address this. b.Promoting rights and confidentiality

Health is a very sensitive area in a person’s life. People have to feel comfortable and confident when divulging matters regarding their health. Every individual using healthcare service has rights beside human rights. These rights established by legislation, code of practice and national standards include the following: -The right to be protected from harm and danger

-The right to be respected
-The right to be treated with dignity
-The right to be given privacy
-The right to be treated equally without discrimination
