This case study illustrates the pivotal role played by inspirational speeches in boosting the performance of individuals in a company. It quotes the speeches delivered by Erik Weihenmayer and Trisha Meili at CISCO systems and Plug Power Inc., respectively as examples, to demonstrate how their success stories assisted in creating a positive impact among their employees and inspired them to steer their goals along the path parallel to that of the organization. It claims that infusing positive energy into the listeners can significantly enhances their efficiency levels and hence contributes to the overall improvement of performance.

Studies on organizational dynamics reveal that keeping its human resources motivated has a direct impact on the productivity and profitability of the organization. High motivation levels among employees result in maximum utilization of resources. As the motivating factor varies from person to person, it’s extremely important to carefully research on the motivational strategy that an organization wants to implement. The most commonly used motivational techniques include bestowing employees with recognition and monetary benefits- these are referred to as Direct motivation. The approach adopted in this case is Indirect motivation which makes use of an external agent to impel the workforce to work towards the betterment of the organization. It employs articulation as tool to boost the positive energy levels of the workforce and instill in them the inspiration to march ahead and contribute to the organization’s progress. Management experts have come up with several theories to define the process of motivation, and their effects.
