The topic chosen by me for the study is the theory of Motivation and how it is practiced in the practical scenario. The study was done by visiting the company called Hindustan Unilever Limited (HUL). The information was collected from the company on the subject by asking the relevant people of the appropriate designation about the various motivational practices that are carried out in the company Besides studying Motivation practices of the company, the visit and interaction helped me in knowing how the motivational practices are carried out and what changes it brings about in the employee and employer interaction and also in the performance of the employees.

Motivation may be defined according to A. Maslow, as "The processes that account for an individual's intensity, direction and persistence of effort towards attaining a goal."

Motivating a person who already has a high morale is easy but the main question is how do you motivate someone who has a low or very low morale? I personally like this topic because before making the study I was really unaware of how it was practically applicable and even many of us today are not aware of the effects that motivation can have on the business, and it is therefore important to learn and understand the factors that determine positive motivation in the workplace. The purpose was to find each worker’s commitment and how important motivation is for them. There is an old saying you can take a horse to the water but you cannot force it to drink; it will drink only if it's thirsty - so with people. They will do what they want to do or otherwise motivated to do. Whether it is to excel on the workshop floor or in the 'ivory tower' they must be motivated or driven to it, either by themselves or through external stimulus. Motivation is the key to performance improvement can have an effect on the output of your business and concerns both quantity and quality. Hence this study is of strategic importance.

Hence the objective of this project is to study the following: * What the company HUL is doing to motivate its employees and also to check how successful that company is in its endeavors to motivate the employees.

* On the basis of the conclusion we would also recommend any necessary changes in the organization’s approach towards motivation.
