Abstract

This proposal is to provide facts and general opinions about the need for a new library on Drexel University’s campus. The purpose of this new library would be to make the campus a better place to work and live. The information in this proposal is concrete and precise so it will allow President Clifford Keevan to have a solid understanding of the benefits of approving this major project. This proposal also discusses the consequences of keeping the current library without any major renovations, and how this will continue to affect Drexel’s student life and overall image. The major topics in the report that will be covered are the general renovation of the current library’s facilities, expansion of academic materials, creation of developmental programs for students, and the fostering of a more welcoming atmosphere for student organizations. The current Hagerty Library has been open for over 25 years now, and is an eyesore for current and prospecting students. Having an attractive campus is a key factor in appealing to new students; and this all starts with our library. In conclusion, with Drexel’s current ambitions and future goals, this new library should be nothing short of the best.

Introduction

Background

In recent years Drexel University has been taking leaps and bounds to assert themselves as one of Americas top universities. In 2011 and 2012 Drexel was appeared in US News and World Reports top five up and coming universities, and recently has been taking on massive construction projects to accommodate the needs of their ever growing student population. As the student population continues to increase Drexel University must provide these students with a greater area of study space around campus. In order for Drexel University to keep on their path to becoming on of Americas top university Drexel must increase their library facilities as a place for students to study, grow, and prosper in their academic lives. The library is traditionally the core of a university where students can get together to collaborate, socialize, and stay connected with their fellow colleagues. Drexel’s 2013 total enrollment was 18,534 undergraduate and graduate students yet the university only provides one three story library for students to study at making it hard to find seating and deterring many students from studying at the W.W Hagerty Library. Problem

One of the biggest problems I see at Drexel is the disconnect that students feel with one and other, the creation of a new and improved student library could help to reconnect the student body under as one unified group. The library is traditionally the core of a university where students can get together to collaborate, socialize, and stay connected with their fellow colleagues. Students due to its lack of space and outdated appearance currently underutilize the W.W Hagerty library. With a student population of over 20,000 Drexel University must provide study space to accommodate all their students and the WW Hagerty Library is simply not cutting to. Purpose

I write this report to show you the benefits’ to both students and the university that constructing a second library could bring. Our goal is to display to you that for Drexel University to assert themselves as one of Americas top universities it is crucial that they increase the library facilities available for students. Objective

The objective of our report is to prove to you that not only the Drexel student population but also the University as a whole could benefit from the construction a new and improved university library.
