ABSTRACT
This research study was conducted to contribute to our understanding about the difference in work motivation among the public and private sector organization. This study investigated on the determinants of motivation at work. One public sector and one private sector are selected for this study with a sample size of 140. An overview of the concept of motivation will be developed as a result of a search results which will depict the factors that generate different level of work motivation in Public and Private sector and the differences lie among the private and public sector employees with regard to Work Motivation it follows by an analysis and interpretation, ending with a discussion and a conclusion.

1.0 INTRODUCTION
The topic on motivation at work had received consideration and sustained attention in recent years among both practicing managers and organizational researchers. In an era marked by intense global competition and pressure for increased organizational efficiency and effectiveness, ways must be found out to attract and retain high-quality personnel and assuring that these individuals perform the tasks for which they were hired. Due to the accelerating and pervasive nature of change, organizations must promote creative, spontaneous, and innovative behaviour on the part of their employees. In short, to be effective in today’s dynamic business environment, managers must have the ability to influence and motivate their workforce. Motivation is arguably the topic that organizational researchers and practicing managers look to in order to understand behaviour inside organisations. Motivation has received considerable and sustain attention because most perspective on this topic have assumed that it involved principal behavioural factors that are especially critical to the functioning of contemporary organisations. Managers and researchers cannot avoid consent with the behavioural requirement of an organisation. In addition to deploying financial and physical resources, every organisation must utilize its human resources effectively. Katz and Kahn (1978) have posited that organizations and its managers must address the motivational problems in order to stimulate decisions to participate, choices to produce, and effort to be innovative and solve problems. Motivation, as a concept, represents a highly complex phenomenon that affects and is affected by a multitude of factors in the work milieu. A comprehensive understanding of the ways in which organisation function requires that at least some attentions be directed toward the question of why people behave as they do in the job, that is the determinants of employee work behaviour and the ramifications of such behaviour for an organisation.
